Maintenance and repairing obligations: Responsibilities of Leaseholders and Shared Owners

As a leaseholder or shared owner with us, it's important to understand your maintenance and repairing obligations.  We have provided some guidelines below, but don't forget you can find your specific repairing and maintenance obligations in your lease.

General maintenance responsibilities

  • Internal repairs: As a leaseholder or shared owner, you are responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the internal components of your property. This includes fixtures, fittings, and any internal structures such as walls, ceilings, and floors within your property.
  • Decoration: It is your responsibility to keep the interior of your property well-maintained and decorated. This includes tasks such as painting, wallpapering, and other cosmetic enhancements.
  • Cleaning and hygiene: Regular cleaning and upkeep of your property, including the removal of waste and keeping the premises in a clean and sanitary condition, are part of your maintenance responsibilities.
  • Routine maintenance: You will need to carry out routine maintenance tasks such as servicing appliances, maintaining plumbing fixtures, and ensuring the proper functioning of electrical systems within your property.
  • Health and Safety: As a responsible occupant, you should take necessary measures to ensure the health and safety of yourself and others in the property. This includes promptly addressing any potential hazards, such as faulty wiring or damaged flooring.

Repairing obligations
