Housing Solutions in conjunction with RBWM, East Berkshire Community Learning & Skills Service (CLASS) and Enterprise Cube have cofunded Strive a unique 12-week training programme. The course has helped scores of local Housing Solutions customers along with other RBWM residents gain the knowledge they need to be successful business owners.
On Friday 21 local residents including Housing Solutions customers graduated from the course, with an exciting opportunity to compete in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style presentation in front of a four-person strong judging panel; consisting of Housing Solutions Chief Executive – Orla Gallagher, Financial Planner – David Hearne CFP, Commercial Director at Baylis Media – Nicola Rogers and Wendy Bould of Grow Our Own, RBWM and a previous Strive graduate. The successful winner was given a small business start-up loan to help them get their new company underway.
The special day, which included a celebratory lunch at CIM Moor Hall, Cookham concluded with the graduates being presented with their certificates from Rt Hon Theresa May MP for Maidenhead. Mrs May commented that Maidenhead is “fizzing with entrepreneurial spirit and it’s great that Housing Solutions and RBWM work together help to kick start and grow new businesses.”
This unique 12-week programme provided entrepreneurs with a robust structure, guidance and advise to get their businesses set up and launched. The diversity of businesses was broad and included web design, gardening, catering, illustration, an ethical car wash, cleaning, craft earrings and two social enterprises.
